Merv Dusyk
August 29, 1948 – June 17, 2022
Merv was born and raised in Montmarte, Saskatchewan. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Saskatchewan, he began his career in Fort Macleod, Alberta where he worked at, and eventually owned, a pharmacy. In 1979, he and his wife, Pauline Dusyk, moved their family to Red Deer. Merv was an instructor in the Red Deer College Pharmacy Technician program from 1979 until his retirement in 2006. He continued to work as a pharmacist in the community until 2021. For the past 11 years, he has resided in Sylvan Lake, Alberta and in Verrado, Arizona with his partner Laurel Goodacre.
Merv will be remembered for his generous spirit and his social nature. A natural host, he enjoyed sharing food, wine, and laughter with friends and family. Always looking to lend a hand, he was quick to offer help to those around him. He has left his mark, through large and small projects, on the homes of all his children and many of his friends. He was a trusted and caring husband, partner, father, and friend. Throughout his life, Merv enjoyed hockey, curling, fishing, and especially golf—a passion that took him across North America and to Europe.
Merv is survived by his partner Laurel Goodacre, and by his children and grandchildren: James and Vicky Dusyk and their children Carson and Katelyn of Okotoks, Jennifer Dusyk-Johnson and Kelly Johnson of Cold Lake, Nichole Dusyk and Dean Simmons and their children Sasha and Nico of Ottawa, and Ben and Lenora Dusyk and their children Allynah and Brianna of Airdrie. He is also survived by his four siblings: Philip and Gloria Dusyk, Ted and Ella Dusyk, Harold and Sharon Dusyk, and Claudette Mironuck, and by many nieces and nephews. Merv is predeceased by his wife Pauline Dusyk (1948-2008) and by his parents John and Elizabeth Dusyk.
A celebration of Merv’s life will be held in Sunday, October 9th, 2022.Condolences may be left for the family at www.eventidefuneralchapels.com
