In Loving Memory of Melvin Harold Svederus
January 8, 1934- December 16, 2023
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Melvin Harold Svederus, who left this world on December 16, 2023, surrounded by loved ones after a short battle with cancer. He was 89 years old at his time of passing.
Born on January 8, 1934, in Red Deer, Alberta to parents Ellis and May Svederus. Melvin grew up in the Cumberland Community, west of Delburne, Alberta, with his four siblings Bill, Albert, Verna and Helen.
Melvin led a life that touched the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a farmer, a hunter, a loving spouse, parent, grandparent, and friend. Melvin was known for his unwavering kindness, compassion, and ability to sew and upholster all kinds of projects. He had a remarkable ability to bring joy to those around him and effortlessly turned strangers into friends.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Caroline Svederus, his 4 children Harold (Maureen), Dan (Lynn), Colette (Scott), and Mervin (Jacque), as well as his 7 grandchildren Kristen, Nova, Blayden, Andrew, Nicole, Emma, and Tyson, and a host of other family members and friends who will forever cherish the memories created with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ellis and May Svederus, his two brothers Bill and Albert Svederus, as well as special cousins Alan Svederus and George Lund.
The family invites friends and well-wishers to join them in a celebration of Melvin’s life on December 28th, 2023 at the Red Deer Eventide Funeral Home at 1:00pm.
The family would like to thank the Red Deer Hospital Unit 32- Palliative Care, and the doctors who took care of Melvin in his final days. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Red Deer Hospital Unit 32- Palliative Care.
