Melba “Toupie” Goodacre
November 20, 1929 – June 1, 2025
Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, and Friend
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Melba “Toupie” Goodacre, who left us peacefully on June 1st, surrounded by the love of her family at Harmony Cottage in Red Deer, Alberta.
Born to Lazarus and Borghild Telning, Toupie lived a vibrant and spirited life marked by joy, humour, and generosity. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Arthur Goodacre, and her sisters, Shirley Robinson and Jean Telning.
Toupie leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her three children: Patricia Connor (Michael), Andrew Goodacre (Carol), and Jill Goodacre, who will each carry forward her memory and strength. She was a proud grandmother to Justin Connor (Angela) and their daughter Olivia; Kaisha Schofield (Brent) and their children Amelia and Felix; Jessica Wilson (Ryan) and their daughters Abigail and Izabelle; Johnathon Goodacre (Alex); Billy Goodacre (Jana). She is also fondly remembered by her nephew Larry (Monica), who shared a special bond with Toupie.
Toupie lived a long life, full of laughter, adventure, and deep connections with those lucky enough to know her. She was known for her love of golf, whether enjoying a sunny round with friends or sharing stories from the green. She played weekly mahjong with her beloved group of ladies and never missed a chance to play cards with her family. Her quick wit, warm heart, and playful jw mom spirit made every game—win or lose—a joy.
Travel was one of Toupie’s greatest passions, and she especially cherished her time spent in Palm Springs. The desert sun, the golf courses, and the company of close friends and family made it a frequent destination for her.
For many years, Toupie made her home in Sylvan Lake, where she found joy and peace living by the water. The lake was her sanctuary, a place of beauty and serenity that reflected the warmth she brought into the lives of others. Living by the water brought her deep contentment, and her home became a haven for family gatherings, holiday celebrations, and quiet moments of reflection.
Toupie’s legacy is one of joy, strength, and a passion for life that inspired those around her. She gave generously of her time and heart, and her memory will live on in the stories shared, the traditions continued, and the love that surrounds her family.
