On September 22, 2022 Maureen passed away peacefully in her sleep at Red Deer Hospice.
She was predeceased by her parents, Bertram and Grace Whitton, brothers Jack, Norman and Eric, sisters Connie and Edna, and loving husband Clive. Maureen will be remembered with love by her three daughters Elizabeth (Jim), Susan (Ken), and Rosemary (Glen); siblings William and Nancy; grandchildren Derek (Kety), Michelle (David), Joel (Pam), Gillian, Elena, and Genevieve; and great grandchildren Sarah-Isabella, William, Samuel, and Dimitriy; her nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Maureen was born in Greenwich, England in 1936 and grew up on Roundtable Road in Bromley Kent. She greatly admired Florence Nightingale and chose a career in nursing which brought her to Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1958. What was supposed to be a one-year nursing opportunity led to a lifetime of love after meeting Clive, and marrying three months later. They raised their family in Grande Prairie, Alberta where Maureen practiced nursing, volunteered in the community, and was an active member of her church. Maureen thoroughly enjoyed retirement in Comox, BC spending many years exploring Vancouver Island with Clive, creating new friendships, and continuing to practice her faith and help others in need. She loved relaxing by the seaside, picnics, walking in the woods, taking care of her dog Lola, nurturing her whimsical English garden, and visiting with her girls over a nice cup of tea. She brought joy and kindness to everyone she met.
She was our “woman in gold” and will live in our memories and remembered with love when we catch a glimpse of an autumn leaf floating from the treetops, when we gaze into the starry, starry night, and whenever we embrace in a “heart to heart” hug.
A private family ceremony will be held at Eventide Funeral Home in Red Deer. The family is sincerely grateful to the staff of Red Deer Hospice for their care and kindness. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Red Deer Hospice.
