Mary “Lori” Lorina Dunn (Peters)
March 6, 1938 to April 29th, 2026
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lori Dunn, who left this world peacefully as the sun rose on April 29, 2026 with family by her side. While we grieve the quiet space she leaves behind, we find comfort in a life beautifully lived dedicated to her family, her faith, and care for all those she encountered.
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother will lovingly be remembered by son Kevin (Shanon), daughters; Linda (Scott) McDonald, Julie (Bobby), and Michelle (Sylvain) Roussel. She will be greatly missed by her five grandchildren; Lindsay (Michelle) McDonald, Preston, Jeff (Meaghan) McDonald, Nathaniel and Jonathan Roussel as well as five great grandchildren; Ella-Grace, Scarlett, and Aspyn, Daisy and Frankie. Lori is survived by her sisters; Gloria (Earl) Walsh and Marilyn Thorpe (Jim), and her brothers Edwin, Gerard, Dougie (Vera), David (Janet), Rick and John (Frannie), and sisters in law; Shirley, Suzanne, Jean, Dot and Angela, and a large number of extended family. Lori was predeceased by her cherished Johnny, the love of her life. Also awaiting her in rest were dear parents Henry and Evangeline, brothers Ronnie, Eric, Reggie, Vernon, Norbie, Roy, Noreen (wife of Ronnie), Norma (wife of Edwin), Linda (wife of Gerard), and Jack (husband of Marilyn). She will be dearly missed by additional cherished family members through her marriage to Johnny.
Lori’s working life started young when she agreed to fill in as teacher at the tender age of 16 at St. Mary’s School in Prince Edward Island. Lori’s love of numbers and sharp mathematical mind then paved the way for a career with the Bank of Montreal, first in Charlottetown, PEI and then Montreal, Quebec. It was during this time she met and married her soulmate, Johnny. Her life took on a new sense of adventure as a military spouse. Following Johnny’s service across Canada and a short posting in the States, Lori was the steadfast heart of the family, navigating the moves with ease and dedicating herself to raising her four children, her greatest pride and joy. After raising her children she attended Red Deer College, where she proudly earned her Rehabilitation Practioner Diploma, beginning a meaningful new career dedicated to supporting the residents of Michener Center. In 1991 she retired and began the next chapter of her life.
In retirement, Lori enjoyed traveling with Johnny, golfing, walking ‘the red mile’, playing Euchre and spending precious time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren creating lifelong memories. She continued her passion for caregiving through volunteering with Michener Center Pastoral Care and singing in St. Mary’s choir.
Lori spent her final years at Sunset Manor, where she was supported and cared for while navigating life with dementia. She brightened the days of staff and residents with her daily dancing, singing and kindness. Her goal was to ensure anyone she encountered would come away feeling cared for and happy and she fulfilled her purpose right up until her passing.
With a heart as big as her spirit, Lori kept an open door for everyone. She hosted many celebrations and always had a room available for anyone in need. Lori’s Catholic Faith was the foundation of her life guiding her actions and bringing her immense joy. We grieve her loss deeply, yet our hearts are lightened knowing she is home at last, walking hand in hand again with Johnny and her cherished family members.
Our family is sincerely grateful to the staff of Sunset Manor and to mom’s companions Karen and Adrienne.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 9th at 1:00pm at St. Mary’s Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta. Internment and luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta, Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
MOM, WE LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK….AND A WHOLE TON MORE!
