Martin Thomas McLaughlin passed away peacefully with family at Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on March 17, 2024.
Martin was predeceased by his loving wife Gail on March 8, 2006, his mom Louise Burns father Thomas, brother James (Lila), brother Dennis (Joyce), and sister Frances Appleby (Ralph).
Martin is survived by his step son Mark Lamb (Vicki), son Edward (Barb), Carol Sawatzky (Dale), Patricia McLaughlin (Glenn Cormack), Cynthia Zinger (Greg), and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Martin enjoyed watching hockey (Oilers) and baseball (Blue Jays). His favorite pastime was metal detecting. He spent hours in the Kindersley area and on the beach at Sylvan Lake when the weather was permitted.
Martin was born on May 26, 1938 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan and grew up there on the family farm. He took the family farm over in 1965 with his wife Gail and they raised their family there. It was a great life. Martin and Gail sold the family farm and retired to Victoria in 1996, eventually moving to Medicine Hat and finally settling in Sylvan Lake, Alberta.
A Prayer Service will be held at Eventide Funeral Home (4820 45 Street, Red Deer) on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 7:00 pm.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday. March 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kindersely, Sask. Internment immediately after with lunch to follow.
