FINK, Marlene Bernice (Jones) — In her 87th year, Marlene passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Beloved wife of Peter for 60 years; mother of Christopher (Laura Anne) of Calgary; James (Carolyn) of Yarker, ON; Jennifer of Edmonton. Devoted grandmother of Daniel (Jennifer) and Andrew (Allana). Great grandmother of Addison and Annalise. Predeceased by her brother Clayton (2004), sister Patricia (2015), and parents Arthur Leslie and Marguerite Marie (Murphy) Jones. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Dorothy Jones whom she thought of like a sister, as well as many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marlene was born on August 4, 1934 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario and grew up in nearby Larder Lake. She was always proud of her Northern Ontario roots. After finishing high school, she followed her siblings to Sarnia, ON and worked for CHOK radio and the Sarnia Police Department before meeting Peter, an engineer with Dow Chemical; they married in 1961. The family moved to Lake Jackson, Texas in 1973 and then to Red Deer in 1977. Marlene’s passion was family and friends and throughout these moves, she maintained strong ties with both. The couple enjoyed many hiking adventures and Lake O’Hara Lodge in Yoho held a special place in their hearts. Later, trips to Kelowna were regular excursions where they enjoyed the vineyards and dined at their favourite restaurants. Marlene enjoyed a close circle of friends who supported her and brought her joy: Sunday brunches after church; golfing friends at RDGCC who became so much more; neighbors and colleagues who were still in her life after 50 years. She and Peter delighted in entertaining friends and family at their cherished home and Marlene will be remembered as a gracious hostess and a delight to be around. Her laugh was unmistakable and she liked nothing better than spirited conversation over a lovely glass of pinot gris. Marlene never seemed to forget anyone’s birthday, anniversary, graduation or retirement and marked these occasions by sending cards, notes, flowers, making a phone call or, more recently, FaceTiming her grandsons. She was a selfless and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and her warmth and affection will be deeply missed.
