Marie Lauraine Dufresne (Duval) “Diane”
August 5, 1950 – October 4, 2025
It is with deep love and sadness that the family of Marie Lauraine Dufresne (Duval), affectionately known as “Diane”, announces her peaceful passing on October 4, 2025, at the Red Deer Hospice, surrounded by her family.
Diane was born on August 5, 1950, and throughout her life she was known for her warmth, creativity, and devotion to her loved ones. Her greatest joy came from her family, who meant everything to her.
She is lovingly remembered by her son Jack (Emma), grandchildren Ashlain (Trin) and Ana (Luc), as well as her great-grandchildren Matthew, Jase, Rylan, and Leah. Diane is also survived by her daughter Marianne (Tom) and grandchildren Jessie, Wyatt, Todd, and Danny, who all brought immense joy and pride to her life.
She will be deeply missed by her siblings Madeleine (Greg), Linda, Carol, Roland (Lynne), Camille (Marilyn), Richard, and Danny (Nicole), and their families, all of whom she loved dearly. Diane will also be fondly remembered by her special friend and companion Julien, who was by her side for much of her journey during her last few months.
Diane shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband Andre (“Andy”), whose work took them to many places across Alberta. Together, they built a lifetime of memories and friendships in each community they called home. Diane’s kindness, laughter, and ability to connect with people left a lasting impression wherever she went.
Her kitchen was always filled with love — her homemade bread, strawberry jam, caramel sauce, and delicious meat pies made every Christmas were legendary among family and friends. She was also a gifted and creative soul, expressing herself through crochet, puzzles, and painting, and was known for her charming hand-painted ladybugs on rocks, a signature of her joyful and playful spirit.
Diane loved to play cards and was known for her competitive streak, never hesitating to play to win — even against family. Whether at the card table or the Bingo hall, she brought laughter, determination, and a touch of mischief to every game. One of her favourite activities was playing Bingo, where she not only made many wonderful friends but also walked out with the pot more than a few times — a true testament to her luck and laughter-filled spirit.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Andre, her siblings Loisette and Ron, her sister-in-law Joanne, and her parents Alliette and Gaston.
Diane will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle humour, and her ability to make everyone feel welcomed and cared for. She leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and family devotion that will forever be cherished.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, #6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta. A viewing will take place at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service, with a gathering at the church to follow.
A second service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Girouxville, Alberta, with interment to follow at the Jean Cote Cemetery. A gathering will follow in Jean Cote to continue celebrating Diane’s life and the cherished memories she created with those she loved.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Deer Hospice Society, whose compassionate care brought comfort to Diane and her family in her final days.
Forever loved, forever missed. 💛
“The love of a family is life’s greatest blessing.
Though we may part for a while, love never leaves us —
it lives on in the hearts of those we hold dear,
binding us together across time and distance.”
“Love leaves a memory no one can steal,
and loss leaves a heart no one can heal —
but family and friendship
make both worth every moment shared.”
