Lucill Morrison (nee Paterson) passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on December 16, 2023 in Red Deer, Alberta with family at her side.
She was born on September 11,1939 to Jack and Dena Paterson and made wonderful memories growing up on Highland Creek Farm near Ethelton, Saskatchewan. It was here that she cultivated her love of nature and her sense of adventure and curiosity.
She was a silent leader; a teacher and a learner her entire life. She enjoyed travel and adventure, and maintained an active lifestyle. Lucill was an avid reader, and a talented writer and artist. She was fun loving and had a great sense of humour.
Lucill graduated from teachers’ college and married John Raymond Morrison in 1959. While raising 3 children, teaching full time, and moving 9 times, she completed her Bachelor of Liberal Arts Cum Laude from the University of Saskatchewan in 1970.
After retirement, Lucill and Ray owned and operated The North Hill Dairy Queen in Red Deer. She had the opportunity to mentor other women entrepreneurs for The Federal Business Development Bank. She was later a dispatcher for Sky Wings Aviation. She went on to volunteer with many community organizations.
Lucill was an amazing and much-loved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She was predeceased by Ray in 2008 after 48 years of marriage.
Lucill is survived by her children, Doug (Janine), Donna Carlyle (Dwight), Patty Farwell (Mike); her grandchildren, Angelina, Jocelyn, Justine (Chris), Alison (Shane), Jared (Tanner), Jordan (Adam), Madison (Chad), Cole; and 11 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings, Jean Parsons (Gary), Bob (Harriet) and Guy; sister-in-law Dorothy Elliott, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Mah and the staff of Bethany CollegeSide as well as Aurora House Centennial Centre for the wonderful care she received. The Alzheimer’s Society provided much needed support for both Lucill and the family during the last few years.
A memorial service will be held in Saskatchewan at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to your local Alzheimer’s Society, United Way or Food Bank.
A quote Lucill suggested, that sums up her fearless life: “To die will be an awfully big adventure” J.M. Barrie Peter Pan
