Lorraine Agnes Day
1942 – 2021
Lorraine Agnes Day, formerly of Carstairs, Alberta, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2021 at the age of 78 with her family by her side.
Lorraine was born in Calgary in 1942, the second of four children for Walter and Martha Felker. She grew up on the Felker farm west of Carstairs.
In November 1963, Lorraine married the love of her life, Doug Day. They worked side by side to raise a family. They also operated a mixed family farm just west of Carstairs for nearly 50 years before retiring and moving to town in 2012. Lorraine spent the last year in the Bethany Care Centre in Didsbury.
Lorraine was a wonderful mother and wife. She enjoyed travelling with Doug until his passing, watching her beloved Toronto Blue Jays and, most of all, participating in family get-togethers. She had a huge heart, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was dedicated to her husband and family, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Lorraine leaves behind her daughter Cindy (Jim) Swinston of Innisfail; her son Kelly (Connie) Day of Carstairs; her five grandchildren Jessika, Adam (Jessica), Amber (Andrew), Shane (Leah), Brandon (Lyndsey); eight great-grandchildren Jayda, Jaymi, Charlie, Adonnis, Ailbe, Alayna, Cohen and Jasper; her sister Bernice (Roy); her brothers Gerald (Bev) and Bob (Joyce); and numerous cousins. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband Doug; her father Walter; her mother Martha; her son-in-law Rodney; her great-granddaughter Ryleigh; and her grandson-in-law Jason.
Lorraine’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the loving staff at the Didsbury Bethany Care Centre, who made her brief stay an exceptional experience. Thanks also to the doctors, nurses and support staff of the Didsbury Hospital Acute Care Unit, who went above and beyond to make Mom’s final days comfortable with her family.
In honour of Lorraine’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Didsbury Hospital Acute Care Unit in memory of Lorraine Day. Donations can be marked “Didsbury Hospital Acute Care Unit” and mailed to Rosebud Health Foundation, 1210 20 Avenue, Didsbury AB, T0M 0W0.
Condolences for Lorraine’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net.
