Lorne Joseph Olmstead

Lorne Joseph Olmstead, a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on July 30, 2023, in Red Deer, Alberta. He was born to Vernon and Cora Olmstead in Carberry, Manitoba on May 21, 1931. He was 92.
Lorne grew up on the family farm in Gregg, Manitoba then in 1953 travelled to Calgary to start a job with Alberta Government Telephones. He transferred to Edmonton in 1972 and retired from AGT in 1987. After retiring, he and his wife Ruby built their new home at Pine Lake, Alberta. Lorne and Ruby travelled extensively, and he sang in church choirs and with the Wild Rose Harmonizers. Lorne was known to assist anyone that needed help with repairs and renovations.
Lorne is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ruby (Beck); children Dean (Deb), Wayne (Rose), Gail and Lyle; grandchildren, Asha, Jay (Fallon), David and Michael; and his brother, James (Grace). He is predeceased by his sisters, Jean and Shirley and brothers, Ross and Bertram.
The family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful staff at Timberstone Supportive Care and also the outstanding doctors and nurses at the Red Deer Hospital.
A Memorial service will be held at Sunnybrook United Church (12 Stanton Street) on Friday, August 11th at 2:00 pm in Red Deer Alberta. If you plan on joining us virtually please check with Sunnybrook United Church for a livestream link.
A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your charity of choice.
