Lloyd Alan McMurdo passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on February 24, 2020. After a short illness. He was predeceased by his loving wife Mae in 2012. Lloyd is survived by his daughter Lynn (Shawn), his son Ryan, grandchildren Natalie and Lyndan, cousins, numerous nephews and nieces and his special friend Helen Andrew. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Lloyd was the youngest and last remaining member of a family of four, one brother and two sisters. He was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan and spent all his life in northern and central Alberta. After high school he trained as a surveyor and was employed by Alberta Transportation. He met Mae in 1954 and they married un 1956, moved to Red Deer where Lloyd continued with survey work for the City. In 1965 he discovered new interests, took courses in Parks Development and Management from the University of Guelph, Ontario and assumed the position of Parks Manager for the City of Red Deer in 1967, a positon he held and enjoyed until his retirement in 1987. He has a long and fulfilling retirement, undertaking many projects and traveling, enjoying every day with Mae and with family or friends.
Lloyd was an ardent outdoorsman and hiked, golfed, gardened, hunted and fished until the last. He was a past member of the Elks and Legion and St. Luke’s Anglican Church where he and Mae attended very regularly for 56 years. More recently he became an active member of St. Leonard’s Anglican Church.
He also delivered Meals on Wheels for a number of years and felt grateful that he was able to serve people who were often several years younger than he was. He assisted in fund raising for various non-profit organizations.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesdy, March 4, 2020, 2p.m. at St. Leonard’s on the hill, 4241 44 Street, Red Deer, Ab.
