EUINTON, Leslie
1920 – 2017
Born in Kentish Town, north London, his first job was as a tea boy at the Daily Express on Fleet Street, subsequently he was a draughtsman at Champion sparking plugs. This was a reserved occupation in wartime. He left the job, signed on as unemployed on his 21st birthday, and joined the RAF voluntary reserve. He saw training in the UK and South Africa. Then followed service in Burma, which involved two years living in a tent in the jungle. Returning to the UK by boat from SE Asia, Lester won a large sum playing poker, which helped him to fund medical school training. Lester joined Her Majesty’s Factory Inspectorate in 1959, and was appointed Head of Occupational Health in Saskatchewan in 1974. He then worked for JRB Associates as a consultant in Washington DC for 5 years. Lester and Joy moved between the UK and Canada several times after retirement, settling in Red Deer. He was predeceased by Joy, his wife of 61 years, in 2013. He is survived by their children Sam (Karen, James, Libi and Cara), Jane (Steve, Sara, Simon and Zoe), Tim, Suzanne (Ron, Rain and Robin) and Pip (Karen). We wish to thank the people who cared for Dad in his last days, especially Jeanette, Val, Dr Philpott, Dr Taiwo and their staff. A ‘Come and Go’ will be held for ‘Doc’ at the home of his daughter, Suzanne located at 23 Depalme Street on Saturday, July 8, 2017 between the hours of 2:00 – 6:00 p.m., Red Deer, Alberta.
