Leona Marjorie Strong passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 99 on December 8, 2022.  Leona was born August 18, 1923 in Penhold, Alberta, the 5th of eight children born to John and Anna (Swainson) Strong.  Leona is survived by her sister-in-law, Cathy Strong (Doug) and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was a family treasure and definitely the historian. Her memory for details was amazing; we will miss being able to “fact-check” with her and hear her many humorous stories. She was quick witted, intuitive and loved to have a laugh with whoever was visiting. She loved her large extended family and was always interested in knowing what everyone was doing.

Leona was a life-time member of the Red Deer Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and in her younger days enjoyed socializing, curling and some travels. Her first job was at Eatons in the eyeglass department but she soon moved up to Finance where she continued as a dedicated, expert employee for 48 years.  

Auntie Nonie was fortunate to have many family members who loved her dearly and helped her out when needed; they would like to thank the staff at Villa Marie Covenant Care Home for their compassionate care  of her these past few years.  A private family service will take place in the new year as well as a celebration of her long, wondrous life.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
