It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Kevin Lynch on August 2, 2020. Kevin was born in Belfast, Ireland in 1937 and immigrated to Canada in 1958. Kevin spent many of his early years working in Northern Canada in the mines and as a heavy equipment operator. He married the love of his life, Josephine, in 1974 and they settled and began their married life in Fort McMurray. In 1982 they moved to Red Deer to raise their family and he resided at Odell Green until his passing. He was a loyal member of the Knights of Columbus #3408 and was a founding member of the Central Alberta Irish Canadian Association. Upon leaving the workforce, Kevin also dedicated many hours of woodworking, building crosses for the unmarked graves at Mount Calvary cemetery.
Kevin is lovingly remembered by his wife Josephine, of 46 years. Together they raised three children: Sinead (Brett) Armstrong, Rory (Radean), and Fergus (Wendy). He will be missed most by his nine grandchildren: Kate, Finn, Lucy, Pierce, Declan, Keane, Davis, Emmett, and Bridget. Kevin is also survived by many members of the Hanlon and McGuire family in Alberta, California, New York & Ireland. He also leaves many close friends who he loved to gather and reminisce with.
Those who were lucky enough to know Kevin and spend time in his garage or at the kitchen table knew what a great man he was. He was humble, gracious and kind and whose hospitality was renowned. If you darkened his door you were met with a welcoming smile and an offer of a beer. He was a proud man whose greatest accomplishments lived in the success of his children and grandchildren.
Kevin battled hard over the past few years and lived his final days with grace. He spent the past few months in the Red Deer Hospital until his move to the Rosefield Centre in Innisfail. The family would like to thank the staff at both facilities for the excellent care and support he received in his final weeks. A special thank you to Dr. McConnell, Dr. Metcalf and Dr. Christensen for their compassion and dedication to Kevin’s end of life journey.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, August 6, 2020.
