Kerry passed away unexpectedly while on a business trip in . He will be sorely missed by all his family, many friends and work colleagues.
Kerry leaves to mourn his loving wife of twenty-five years Suzanne and two amazing daughters Lauren (18) and Sarah (16). Kerry also will be sadly missed by his mother Jerry, his father Jim and wife Brenda, his brother Chris and wife Cari, and his sister Tara. Kerry had a very special and close connection to Tara’s daughters Kyana and Chloe. Kerry will also be greatly missed by his mother and father-in-law Darel and Cecile Small, and Suzanne’s sisters and families – Jenine and Dave Armstrong and children Kaylan and Declan (niece and nephew), as well as Christine and Sean Niemi and Siena (niece). Kerry is also survived by special family friend Kayla Whissell, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives.
Born in Calgary, Kerry’s family moved to Red Deer in 1974. Kerry had a lifelong love of sports beginning with hockey at the age of six on the family’s outdoor rink in Red Deer. Kerry was a huge Red Deer Rebels and Calgary Flames fan as many people can attest. Later in life soccer became another passion for Kerry as he watched Lauren and Sarah get into the sport. Kerry then applied his coaching talents with the Blizzard Rangers in Calgary. He coached, mentored and loved all these girls – so much so that many of them became like family! Kerry grew to love soccer as well and even played some over the last couple of years in Red Deer.
Kerry’s work life started after graduating from SAIT with a power engineering certificate which resulted in a twenty-eight year career with Nova Chemicals. He started as a Process Operator and concluded as a Process Engineering Team Leader in Ethylene III. Kerry was always up for a challenge and strived to progress in his career. This included a special assignment at the Indian Orchard facility in Massachusetts as well as a stint in the commercial business division at the Calgary Office. Kerry and the family moved back to Red Deer in 2016 when Kerry returned to work at the Joffre plant site.
Kerry touched many people in his short life of 48 years. He was a wonderful husband, an amazing dad, and his family meant everything to him. He was very well respected and excelled professionally and personally. He will be deeply missed by his family, and friends. Our hearts are completely broken and we will miss him forever!
