Kenny Kauppi

Mr. Kenny Kauppi, aged 77 passed away peacefully on May 16th, 2023, after a brief illness of dementia. He was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on November 16th, 1945, to Martha and Reino Kauppi and was raised on the family homestead on Hazelwood Drive. Later he married his high school sweetheart Carolyn Townson, and they settled on Hazelwood Drive where they had two children.
Kenny worked for Thunder Bay Telephone where after a few years he tried his hand at trucking in the pulp and paper industry where he retired in the late 1990’s. Some will remember him with his french fry truck at the corner of Highway 11/17 and Dog Lake Road where he enjoyed a few years of preparing food and chatting with his customers.
Kenny was predeceased by his parents and his eldest brother Louie. He is survived by his daughter Stephanie (Peter) Schmucker and his son Steve (Carie) Kauppi. He is also survived by his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Cory (Lauren) Schmucker, Carly (Ron) Cook, Cole (Shayna) Kauppi, Hunter Kauppi and Cody Forster. As well as 3 great grandchildren Charlie, Tommy, and Emma Schmucker. Also surviving Kenny is his partner of 30 years Shirley Hoxell and her daughters Connie Hoxell, Christine Brezden, Charlene Grenier and Colleen Swiderski as well as their families, who he considered family. Surviving Kenny are his admired siblings Marlene Valliere, Sylvia Gillson, Cathy Allam and Eddy Kauppi.
Steph and Steve would like to thank the staff at Bethany College Side, who took such wonderful care of our father the past year.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at a later date in Thunder Bay.
