Kenneth (Ken) Vanderbeek

Ken was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is predeceased by parents. Ken is survived by daughter Amy Starkey and her husband Karson, and Brother, status unknown. Also survived by his partner and love, Joan Connelly.
Ken passed away from cancer at Lacombe Hospital. In 1983, Ken was a Volunteer Fire Fighter with the Yellowknife Fire Department. He at the time was working for PWA at Yellowknife Airport on the ticket counter. He left PWA and started full-time with YKFD in 1984-85. Ken was on A Platoon until 1989, when he left the department. He went to work with Transport Canada at the airport, doing airfield maintenance. Running equipment such snowplows, graders and dump trucks. He moved to Peace River, was working at Daishowa Pulp Mill in Safety. Ken loved fishing and camping on his days off. He had a boat and would pull friends on our tubes at Long Lake outside Yellowknife. Working ambulances were part of Ken’s duties. Years passed and Ken started as Class 1 Driving Instructor. He then moved on to delivery, driving hoping to do better with his own company, Driving Force Consulting. He also hauled for Sylvan Lake and Allen Dale RV. He ended his career with Main Road Contracting, driving and reporting highway conditions for other drivers’ safety.
Ken loved working but also loved coming home to peace and his loving family, Joan and his puppy. Ken was a very kind and thoughtful man and always took care of others. In lieu of flowers Donations to Canadian Cancer Society. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
