Kathleen Selma Eddy of Vermilion AB passed away suddenly January 29, 2025 at Red Deer Hospital, AB at the age of 73 years.  Kathy was born in Ponteix, SK to Max and Ellen Eddy on June 10, 1951.  She grew up on the farm close to Aneroid and moved to town in her grade twelve year.  She completed grade 1-8 in Hazenmore and went on to high school at Kindcaid. Kathy moved to Estevan, SK where she met Hubert Rieland.  They married and began their family with Brad in ‘72, Randy in ‘74 and Brent in ‘76.  While growing their family they also moved to Edmonton, Hinton and settled in Blackfoot, AB.  Kathy worked retail many years and after kids were grown and gone, she went to business school and later worked at Servus Credit Union in Lloydminster.  Kathy retired and moved to Nanoose Bay, BC to be closer to some of her family and moved back to Alberta in 2023 to again be close to friends and family.  Kathy met her friend Bernie Yonkman and since then they’ve had many adventures.   From camping all the way to Alaska and back, to hanging out at the Auction Mart together, visiting at the Legion, going ice fishing, to just puttering around the acreage and more.  Bernie’s son even took Kathy hunting a couple years ago and she was very excited to tell us about her deer.  Kathy had spent many hours in the bush, hunting with her boys as they were growing up, so her latest deer brought back some memories.  Kathy had been staying very busy gardening and helping Bernie with his animals.  She also, spent much time with Randy’s young family helping out and watching the grandkids, Ethan and Ava grow.  She was able to celebrate her oldest grandchild, Aleshia’s high school graduation in 2024, see Leah’s sheep 4-H projects last summer and took in some of Caitlyn’s sports activities.

Kathy is survived by her close friend, Bernie Yonkman of Vermilion, AB; sons Brad & Brenda (nee Cooper) Rieland and their children Aleshia, Leah and Caitlyn Rieland of Lloydminster, AB; Randy Rieland and Violet Farquharson, his son Ethan Rieland, their daughter Ava Rieland, Violet’s children Mickayla Rose, Akayla Rose, Rheem Hurd and Okette Hurd of Red Deer, AB.  Her two sisters Judy Eddy of Nanoose Bay, BC and Susan Dumont of Red Deer, AB and brother Greg Eddy of Estevan, SK.  As well as numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Kathy was predeceased by her son, Brent Rieland (1980) of Blackfoot, AB and parents Gerald Maxwell and Ellen (nee Brown) Eddy of Nanoose Bay, BC.  As well as sister in laws, brother in laws and nephews.

Family Interment will take place at a later date in Aneroid, SK.
