It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine (Kathy) Jean Leszynski on February 6, 2026, at the age of 67 years holding the hand of her husband, Fred, whom she shared 41 years of marriage.
Kathy was born August 9, 1958 in Halifax, NS to Joel and Joyce Christianson. She attended Acadia University, graduating with degrees in Arts and Education before moving to Alberta in 1980, where she taught elementary education until retirement in 2013. In 1983, while teaching in Elnora, she met the love of her life, Fred, playing in a curling bonspiel.
In retirement, Kathy and Fred enjoyed travelling, camping, activities with friends, and spending time with family. Kathy also loved the water and was often found daily at aqua fit. She had a lifelong passion for music and singing. She spent many years learning new instruments and relearning old, most recently joining the Golden Ukes.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Fred, of Poplar Ridge and daughters Casey Leszynski of Olds, AB and Chelsea (Marc) Hougestol of Erskine, AB as well as two special granddaughters Scarlett and Everly Hougestol. She also leaves to mourn many family members in Nova Scotia including her brothers Joel (Darlene) Christianson and Eric Christianson.
Kathy’s kind hearted nature was cherished by all who knew her and she cared deeply for all her friendships she gained throughout her years.
The family can’t thank Kathy’s healthcare team enough for the care, compassion, and attention received during her stay at both the Red Deer Regional Hospital and Red Deer Hospice. Sincere gratitude to her family doctor Dr. Caleb.
A gathering in celebration will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Poplar Ridge Community Centre, 38543 – Rge Rd 283, Red Deer County AB from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 – Arnot Ave, Red Deer AB T4R 3S6.
