Karen Marie Boston (nee Lettner) of Red Deer passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 28, 2023, at the Peter Lougheed Center in Calgary after a short battle with leukemia.
Born on January 13, 1958, in Toronto ON, Karen was the youngest of six children born to Ralph and Rita Lettner. After Karen graduated from Lacombe Composite High School, she completed a diploma in photography at Sheridan College where she received top marks in her class.
In 1973, she met Barry Boston in Lacombe, who would become her high school sweetheart and then her husband, when they married on September 22, 1979, in Red Deer. Karen started her career at DJ Wright Photography in Lacombe before working at a printing company in Red Deer for several years. In 1981, she and Barry moved to Rocky Mountain House where she continued her career in printing for several years before starting a family. She found her next passion in life and lovingly cared for her 4 children and their home for over 20 years. She also helped raise many other children in the day home she ran out of the family home for over a decade. Karen later worked at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and then Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Deer, after her Barry moved back to be closer to family in 2017.
A devote Catholic, Karen lived a life of prayer and service. She loved hiking, traveling, curling, baking, and being with family, especially her grandchildren, who equally cherished their beloved grandma.
Karen was predeceased by her parents Ralph & Rita and sisters Maureen and Barb. She will be lovingly remembered by Barry and her children; Scott (Celine), Marie (Manuel), Mark (Stephanie), & Tom (Maria); grandchildren Eloise, Stella, William, Evangeline, Oliver, Julia, Hector, Arthur and Veronica as well as her brothers Gerry and Ken and sister Teresa and numerous nieces and nephews.
