Julia (Jules) Zacharias passed away August 23, 2018 in Red Deer, Alberta. Julia was born April 6, 1971 in Sydney, Australia, the youngest of two sisters born to Bill and Janet Black. She grew up in the sunny Northern Beaches area of Sydney and began her education at Belrose Public School (elementary school) and completed her school education at Roseville Ladies College. She went on to study Nursing at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS).
She met Monty while on holidays in Canada, and they were married on March 8, 1997. The first years of their married life were spent in Sydney, Australia, where she worked with preemie babies in the Royal Hospital for Women in Paddington. She recalled wheeling babies down the street when the hospital moved into a new campus in nearby Randwick, where she had the privilege of caring for her niece when she was born prematurely. They moved to Canada in 2000, where she continued to work as an NICU Nurse at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. She also proudly received her Canadian citizenship in 2004.
After moving back to Australia in 2005 and settling in Nowra, NSW, Julia began working as a surgical recovery room nurse. While living in Nowra, Julia had the joy of giving birth to Olivia in December 2007. When Olivia was three years old, the family returned to Canada, settling in Red Deer, Alberta, where Julia continued to work primarily in a recovery room role at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. She always cherished the opportunity to work with premature babies, though, and also had the opportunity to work in the NICU unit.
Julia blessed so many others throughout her life, not just through her profession but also as a loyal and caring friend. She was also blessed by those relationships, and deeply cherished those friendships.
She leaves behind her husband Monty, much loved daughter Olivia, her mother Janet Black, and her sister Vanessa Webb (Simon) and their children Isobel, Lucas and Phoebe. She is also survived by two aunts, Margaret Hutchison and Robyn Jessiman, and her cousin Richard Jessiman. Also left to mourn are Monty’s sister Angela Krahn (Tim) and their daughters Brianne and Allison. She was predeceased by her Uncle Don Jessiman and her cousin James Jessiman. Julia is now at home with her Heavenly father and reunited with he much adored earthly father, William Rex Black.
Julia’s life exemplified her trust in her powerful God and His promises.
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”
Psalm 62:5-6 NIV
