Judy Unger
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Wife, Mother, Nana, great Nana, Aunt and friend. She held many torches in her life and to say she will be missed dearly is an understatement.
Judith Elaine Unger (Rehn) passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Hospital and care centre on Tuesday April 8, 2025 after a short battle with cancer.
Judy was born in High River, Ab on April 14, 1951 to Maisie and Ivar Rehn and resided in Okotoks until the family settled in Calgary in 1958.
Judy met her soul mate and love of her life Herb in 1968. They married at the young ages of 19 and 20 in 1970. It was then they moved to Grande Prairie, Ab for 6 months. From there they spent another short time in Edmonton Ab and then settled in Calgary, Ab. In January 1973 they welcomed their firstborn, Darren. Corine followed in 1974, and Ryan in 1979.
Judy chose to stay at home with her children while Herb worked on the road. She’d spend several hours volunteering at the school, for hockey, ringette or anywhere needed. Judy kept an immaculate home and have meat and potatoes on the table every single night for dinner. Usually a homemade dessert as well.
In 1985 the family made the move to Red Deer, Ab. Judy joined the work force for 5 years at Value Village when they first opened their doors. It was then she met her Best Friend Melody Holland.
Herb and Judy went on their first adventure and moved to Larnaca, Cyprus for 3 years in 2001. To say Judy loved the experience is an understatement. She met and has kept several friends. Settling back in Calgary in 2004 for 4 years, and in 2008 built a home in Red Deer, Ab and stayed until 2014 when they made the move to Nizhnevartovsk, Russia for 3 years. In 2017 they bought and settled in their forever home in Blackfalds, Ab.
Judy’s love for her family was like no other. Nobody crossed or hurt her family! Judy always had to be busy doing something with hands, knitting and crochet were her favourite. Every special family member has one of her blankets. Some of Judy’s other favourite things include taking care of her several plants, (oh how she loved her jungle) baking cakes for her husband and grandkids, cuddle with her puppies, Lily and Indy while watching her shows and playing words with friends. Judy was also the first call when not only her kids but friends needed something – she was everyone’s safe place.
In December 2024 just days after losing her grandson from cancer Judy was diagnosed with cancer. Life is so precious – Live each day to the fullest!
Judy leaves to cherish her memories, her loving Husband of 55 years, Herb Unger of Blackfalds, Ab; Her Children, Darren (Catherine) Unger of Grande Prairie, Ab.
