Joyce passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital with her son by her side.
Joyce had many names, Mom, Momma, Gma, Granny, GG, Sis, Joycee, Skinnej and AJ to name a few.
She is survived by her son Leonard (Lee) of Calgary, AB and her daughter Shannon (Andy) of Leduc, AB. Gma had 7 Grandchildren: Beverly, Tamara (Tony), Natasha (Jason), Nathan, Ashley, Shawn and Tegan (Justin). As well as 14 Great Grandchildren: Devyn (Toni), Tryson, Tomeika, Dakotah (Tylor), Brooklyn (Brandon), Schylar (Zach), Parks, Alexis, Teryn, Hayden, Alice, Lauren, Aliyah and Hazel, the youngest of them all. But wait…. there are more, 10 Great Great Grandchildren: Chloe, Deynahi, Loki, Matteo, Cecelia, Skyra, Bauer, Meekah, Turner and Scarlytt. Siblings; Ella (Terry), Judy (Bruno), Andy (Margaret) and her baby sister Bonnie (Terry);Sisters in Law; Shirley and Linda. As well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Harvey; son Wesley; parents Eva and Isaac Giesbrecht; brothers Bernard and Harold; Bev’s Caddi, and many other extended family and close friends.
She was born on May 8, 1940 in St. John, North Dakota, USA. She came to Canada with her mom and her sister Ella, when she was very young. She attended school in Holmfield where she curled and was in drama. After finishing school, she moved to Winnipeg and from there to Regina where she met and married Harvey on September 5, 1959. They moved to Alberta with their three children and lived in numerous places. Joyce worked primarily in the restaurant industry but ended up doing accounts payable for Weyerhaeuser Canada. Joyce lost her husband in 1990. She spent her early retirement travelling to visit friends and family, settling in Red Deer. Joyce enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, crocheting, spending time with her grandchildren and watching curling. In more recent years she enjoyed watching all sports and participating in the Barrett Place social club. Joyce ended her days at Taylor View Towers, where as usual, she made many friends. She will forever be missed and always remembered.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at Festival Hall, 4214 58 Street, Red Deer AB on Friday, July 4, 2025, at 12pm. Luncheon to follow. As per Joyce’s wishes “nothing fancy”.
