On Friday, November 17, 2017 we lost our matriarch; our mom, our Grandma Jo, our GG, who passed away peacefully at Timberstone Mews, Red Deer, Alberta. Josephine was born August 28, 1920 in Wetaskiwin, the only daughter to Carl and Sarah Jevne. She and her 4 brothers, Clarence, Freeman, Tustan and Pat enjoyed playing many sports, including fastball, where Jo pitched for the boys team. They participated in the community bands and choirs, and kicked up their heels at country dances. Jo left home for the big city, taking her nurses training at the Grey Nuns. She met Stan Reid in Edmonton and the two were married in 1948. They soon moved to Red Deer with their young family. Jo had her hands full with three rambunctious boys, but despite their best efforts, she survived those years with sanity and sense of humour intact! She worked in Public Health known as the “needle nurse,” terrifying children all over, but none more than her eldest son! In 1975, Jo gently nudged her boys to invest in some land out west. That decision would bring “The Land” into fruition, grandma’s favourite place in the world and a sanctuary for the family and so very many friends. Jo was pre-deceased by her husband, Stan in 1993 and well, “pretty much everybody else”, according to her. She leaves to mourn her sons, Jim (Maggie) Reid, Bill (Juanie) Reid, Pat Reid; her grandchildren, Sarah (Scott) Martin, Nicki (Ryan) Engler, Jamie (Dusty) Mcgillicky, Whitney (Scott) Klaus, Shelby Reid, Courtney Reid and James Reid; her great grandchildren, Loranna and Alandra Martin, Vayda and James Engler, Louis and Miles Mcgillicky, Ayla Klaus and Easton Reid; and countless extended family and friends she loved like family. Please join us in celebrating Jo’s life at a memorial tea; December 12, 2017 at the Red Deer Legion, 2810 Bremner Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta from 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the SPCA at www.albertaspca.org or the Red Deer Hospice at www.reddeerhospice.com. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
