Joseph Vasek
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Sgt. Joseph Vasek (Ret). Joseph was born on April 1, 1943 in Blairmore, Alberta. He was the only child born to Joseph and Violet Vasek. When he was a child, he enjoyed watching his mother and grandmother cook and bake big Italian meals. At the age of 13 he joined the cadets. Even at an early age he earned medals and was a good student. His mother taught him many valuable life lessons. Sadly, she passed away when he was only 17. After high school he joined the Canadian Armed Forces and trained to be a dental assistant. Joseph was stationed around the world and on his third tour as a peacekeeper in Cyprus he met a special lady named Elli. She would give him the keys to her little Suzuki car and he would drive them around the island. They were wed there shortly after. They came with Elli’s daughter to Canada the following year. Joe was a perfectionist and excelled at everything he did. He had high standards and if you didn’t meet them, he would let you know. He was involved in different sports and activities such as bowling, curling, parachute jumping and in retirement he joined the Lone Pine Clay Target Club. He was a friend to everyone and his sense of duty, honesty, and loyalty was shown in his work, his family, friends, neighbours and even pets. Mom and dad took in a stray cat that they named Hobo. Once dad became a grandfather he lovingly took on the role of grandfather. It will be difficult to be apart and Joseph will be in our hearts and thoughts. Joseph will be lovingly remembered by his wife Elli, daughter Maria, granddaughter Joelle, his cousin Albert and (wife Betty), cousin Frances and cousin Michael (wife Sou), his cousin’s families, and his many friends.
Thank you to the staff at the Red Deer Regional Hospital and to all those that visited dad at the Hospital.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Eventide Funeral Home, Red Deer.
