John (Zeke) Zenith From of Red Deer, AB peacefully entered the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday April 17, 2024, at the age of 90.
John was born on May 9, 1933, in Spy Hill, SK, third of six children. Upon committing his life to the Lord, at the age of 16, he was given the opportunity to attend Caronport Highschool and later Briercrest Bible Institute. From then on, BBI continued to be an integral part of his and his family’s lives. John met his love, Rose Lee Staley, at Seattle Pacific University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. They married in 1957, and continued to live and work in Puyallup, WA where they welcomed 5 daughters before their 6th wedding anniversary. John had a great love for his family and wherever life took him he was active in the local Evangelical Church.
John was an avid photographer and outdoorsman, often hunting, fishing, skiing, skidooing, boating and camping to name a few. He was an active member of Athletes in Action with the Edmonton Eskimos, Fish and Wildlife, Red Deer Legion #35 where he loved to dance, The Swedish Club and Central Alberta Radio Control Flying Club. John’s courage, love of adventure and travel led to many road trips and even to obtaining his pilot’s licence. He loved to sing and listen to Gospel, Country, and Old-time musicals.
In 1973, John and Rose Lee sold their home, packed up the family and moved north to Canada, starting their own business, Outdoor World. He later ventured into selling insurance and eventually became a Financial Adviser. John took great pride in being able to assist and serve his clientele until he retired just before his 89th birthday.
John will be lovingly remembered by brother Dave (Ginny); sister Mary; daughters Dawn (Wayne), Cheryl (Ken), Karen (Randy), Gayle (Terry) and Glenda (Ed); 18 grandchildren, and 32 great grandchildren and counting.
He was predeceased by his wife Rose Lee; parents Joseph and Esther; brothers Len and Les, and sister Joyce.
His family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Extendicare Michener Hill who cared for John for the past year.
A Celebration of Life will be taking place on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 2:00 pm, at the Bethany Baptist Church, 3901 – 44 St, Red Deer, AB T4N 1G7.
