John “Jack” Albert Robinson Red Deer AB, passed away on August 2, 2025 at the age of 101 years. Jack was born in Red Deer Hospital and lived with his parents in Hill End district east of Innisfail. His Mom passed away when he was 8 years old from tuberculosis. He then moved to Balmoral District to live with his grandparents and uncles. He went up to Grade 9 in Balmoral school. It was a one room class and Mr. Wellington Dawe was his teacher all those years. Jack loved to play baseball and go around to different school districts. Jack was the catcher. They were a champion team.
Jack was truly a Jack of all trades. He was a fixer, a builder, an inventor. If something was broken, he would go to bed that night and go through each step of how to fix that particular problem. Then in the morning, he would get up and follow those steps and fix the problem perfectly. So many times, in his life, he would ask God for guidance and wisdom and strength. Even the last few days of his life on earth, he would be praying for God to give him strength to stand up or change positions & take the pain away. He loved Jesus with all his heart and could still say from memory Romans 12 and John 3:16. He loved to whistle & yodel while he worked. He would always encourage others to put their faith in God and to trust Him no matter what problems they were facing. So many times, we would hear him say verses of songs and scriptures. “ Count your blessings, name them one by one”, “ How Great Thou Art”, “There’s Power in the Blood”, “Jesus keep me near the cross”+. His Mom taught him to play Rock of Ages on the piano when he was 6 years old and he still could play that perfectly for most of his life.
In 1949, he married Olga, the best girl in the world for him and he would hold her hand every day and tell her how beautiful she was and call her his sweetheart. Guess whose hand he was holding as he passed from this earth to Heaven.
In 1956, Jack & Olga moved to their farm in Balmoral. Jack loved farming and was a very hard worker and kept his machinery in perfect working order. They had a beautiful big garden with lots of vegetables and flowers without any weeds and Jack would always plant potatoes in the garden every year on his birthday April 19 and we’d be eating them on the first day of Red Deer Fair and parade. At age 90, dad bought his last diesel garden tractor and rototiller and drove it until he was 95 !!. Even when he was in Long Term Care the past 7 years, he would talk about farming. The day before he passed away, he said he did 1000 acres that day and he still had 1500 acres to do!!
Jack is lovingly remembered by his precious wife Olga and his children: Darlene (George) McFarlane, Larry (Joan) Robinson, Stuart (Michelle) Robinson: 6 Grandchildren: Paul, Jason, Blake, Tony, Levi in Heaven, Justin, nine great- grandchildren : Brandon, Sabrina, Michael in Heaven, Emilee, Brad, Marissa, Zach, Talen, Porter; and eleven great- great- grandchildren: Coby, Hana, Noah, Michael, Ayden in Heaven, Rykker, Dawson, Alayah, Jaeben, Aria, James.
