John passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice at the age of 93 years, with his family by his side. He is survived by Elaine, his loving wife of 67 years. John was a caring and loving man who enjoyed time with his family. His son John Garnett MacBeth (Laurie) and Hugh MacBeth (Darva). Grandchildren Scott MacBeth (Cassandra), Clayton Phillips (Melissa), Dallas Phillips (Jill), Brock Phillips (Laura), Scott Phillips (Nikita), Melanie MacBeth (Ryer) and sixteen great-grandchildren. John was sadly predeceased by 3 grand-children Jamie MacBeth, Jill MacBeth, Martin MacBeth, his parents, John and Violet MacBeth.
John was born in Eckville, Ab his parents homesteaded on a farm near Condor. One of the happiest days of his life was moving to Red Deer in early 1941. He started his business there in1953 and operated MacBeth Construction for 33 years, moving earth for roads, subdivisions and developing land throughout Alberta where he formed many lifelong friendships.
John’s passion was golfing, socializing and playing cards at the Red Deer Golf & Country Club with the countless friends he made. John wintered in Palm Springs and traveled across North America & Scotland chasing that white ball with his buddies. For 60+ years his Saturday afternoon golf group was his favorite past time. With his colorful endearing whit, John’s life was a life well lived.
Celebration of Life is being planned for June 20th, 2025, at the RDGCC.
We would thank all the caregivers at the Hospice, RDRH & Maid who treated John with care and dignity in his final weeks.
