In Loving Memory
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, John Cunningham Bottomley. He died peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Monday, March 3, 2025 at the age of 84 years. John was born on July 8, 1940 in Lloydminster, SK to Jack and Edith Bottomley and was the middle son of three children.
He worked in the oil and gas industry for 50 years and was both passionate and well respected for his expertise in his field. He took calls from people looking for work advice and consulted into his 80’s until finally hanging up his hard hat.
He was well known for his good sense of humor and endless jokes. He would tell jokes to anyone and everyone. Even in his final days, he’d be cracking jokes to the hospital staff as they walked in and out; while also enjoying jokes they had for him. He died with a full heart and maintained a great attitude right until the end.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Nina and his children, Cheryl Bottomley (Paul), Suzanne (Joe) Towers, John (Stacy) Bottomley, Scott (Carrie) Bottomley; grandchildren Jacob (Bri), Sara, Chanel, Lauren, Katie, Avery, Joseph, Matt, and Chris; great grandchildren Lola and Connor; sister Joyce (Roman) Brunwald; brother Evan (Marilyn) Bottomley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers you are welcome to make a donation to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or the charity of your choice. Condolences to John’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Bottomley” in the subject line.
