On November 19, 2022, Joan Duke (nee Coull) passed away at the age of 82. Joan is survived by her sister Sara, her brothers Ken (Lorraine), and Don (Marilyn), her son Russell (Dianna), her daughter Debby (Brian), her grandson Michael (Justine), her granddaughter Samantha (Kevin), five great-grandchildren – Maverick, Kaidan, Rozalyn, Ezra, Genevieve – and several nieces and nephews. Joan was born in Montreal in July 1940, to Kathleen and Alexander Coull. Joan met her first husband Ken Mashford, and was married in January 1960. They settled in Red Deer where together they raised their two children, Russell and Debby. Joan was a hard worker who took pride in her house and caring for her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and baking which she excelled at. Joan had a great sense of humor and she loved to chat to bring a smile or laugh to those around her. She was a devoted Christian and attended church regularly. In her spare time, Joan loved gardening, and she never missed an episode of Y & R. She married her second husband, Donald Duke, in December 1984 and lived a happy life with him until his passing.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Red Deer Funeral Home on February 3, 2023, at 11 a.m. Debby would like to thank the staff and nurses on the memory care unit at Timerstone Mews, and Joan’s doctor, Dr. Odendhal for their care over the last two years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Red Deer, Mental Health, or the SPCA.
