In sadness, we say goodbye to our beloved Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa, Jimmy. He passed away at Innisfail Hospital on January 31, 2026. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lily Douglas, his siblings Bay, Lily, Nancy, and Smiley, his cherished wife of 64 years, Mary, and his grandson, Douglas. He is survived by his children RoseMarie, Beth, Jimmy, and Billy, along with a large and loving extended family.
In 1925, Jimmy’s parents immigrated to Canada, settling on a soldiers’ settlement homestead in the West Lynn District, where Jimmy began his schooling. He was an eager learner, excelling so much that he skipped a grade. Jimmy settled in the Cumberland District, establishing a dairy and beef farm where he resided until his passing.
A lifelong farmer, Jimmy dedicated his life to milking cows. His passion for farming was unwavering, always striving to have the crops in early and harvested safely before the snow. He took great pride in swathing and cultivating, tasks he continued to perform skillfully into his 90s.
Jimmy and Mary were often recognized with the quality of milk award, and Jimmy served as a Director on the Alpha Dairy Board for many years. He had a remarkable talent for caring for livestock, always ready to assist friends and family with sick or distressed animals. His love for horses was evident from a young age, and he cherished working with them on the farm. His favourite riding horse was a large pinto named Pete.
While he loved the hard work of farm life, which he missed as he grew older, Jimmy also enjoyed country dances. He loved to dance. He was looking forward to celebrating his 100th birthday with friends and family in March. We now look forward to celebrating his life well-lived on that day, March 28, 2026.
