Jean Sandra* Munn was born on August 3, 1942, in Ayr, Scotland, the first born in a set of twins. She grew up in Kilbirnie, Scotland where, at the age of sixteen, she met the love of her life, George Munn. They married on March 27, 1965, making this March 2025, their sixtieth wedding anniversary. They had their daughter, Lesley in 1966, followed by their son, Robert in 1968.
The family later emigrated to Canada making Red Deer their home. Sandra worked many years at Woodwards, and later The Bay creating many enduring friendships. Some of her “Bay Girls” were her visitors in the last week of her life. Sandra was a funny, affectionate and caring friend to many, and the best wife, mum, grandma, sister and aunt to her family.
Sadly, Sandra passed away Wednesday, March 12, surrounded by her family, after a long and agonizing battle with dementia. We are relieved she is no longer suffering and safe in heaven with her family and friends who predeceased her. Sandra was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Jean MacDonald.
She is survived by her loving husband George, daughter Lesley (Greg) Young and their children, Griffin and Aislinn, and her son Robert (Louise) Munn and their children Alex (Gareth) and Emily. She is also survived by her twin brother Alex (Rae) Macdonald and their children Karen (Gordon) Mitchell and Steven (Hilary) Macdonald.
At Sandra’s request there will be no funeral, and her ashes will be flown back to Scotland in the loving care of her family in May.
The family wish to thank the staff at Villa Marie, Red Deer, Centennial Centre: Aurora House, Ponoka, and Michener Extendicare 1400, Red Deer for their efforts to make her last years as comfortable and enriched as possible.
For those wishing to donate in Sandra’s Memory, please contribute to the Centennial Centre for Brain Injury and Mental Health in Ponoka.
