1937 – 2022
Jean Marianne Lalor nee McKay of Red Deer, Alberta passed away surrounded by family of February 28, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer.
Jean is predeceased by her parents Donald and Opal, siblings Margaret and Donald, and husband Wayne.
Jean is survived by her children: Gayle, Barb (Patrick) Griffin, Dwayne (Kathy) Lalor, Bev (Alan) Peturson and grandchildren: Jennifer, Craig, Anne-Marie, Kevin, Kelsey, Mackenzie, Hayley & Jamie. She is also survived by her siblings May (Wayne) Rutherford, Elsie (Ted) Kelley.
Jean was born October 15, 1937, to Donald and Opal McKay and grew up on the family farm outside of Bowden, attending school in the area.
Jean married Wayne Lalor in April 1957 and worked to put him through university in Edmonton. During their 47 year-long marriage they resided in Edmonton, Brandon, Manitoba, and Eugene Oregon, while settling to raise their family in Red Deer.
Jean worked for Alpha for over 25 years. Time outside of work was spent raising the children, attending their numerous sporting events, volunteering with Red Deer Lions, speedskating club and Red Deer Optimist Catalina Swim Club and travelling across Canada with Wayne in their motorhome.
Jean’s dedication continued with her grandchildren, being known as “Granny” to numerous teams from her presence on the sidelines.
After Wayne’s passing in 2004, Jean remained dedicated to her family and fiercely independent, driving alone to Texas numerous times to visit Gayle. Jean filled her time working in her yard, driving her friends and volunteering.
Jean especially enjoyed her time with The Golden Circle driving people to appointments and delivering groceries. Ringing the bells for The Salvation Army at Christmas was also special for her.
Jean asked for no flowers, requesting donations be given to the charity of the donor’s choice or the Lending Cupboard.
