OCTOBER 3, 1928, to JULY 19, 2021
Monday July 19, 2021, Jim passed away with family at his side at The Hamlets of Red Deer on Gasoline Alley.
He was predeceased by his parents, George Oliver, and Glenna (Loblaw) Moss, brother George. Sisters Bessie, Lillian, Isabell, Theodora, and Margaret. Jim will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Millie; daughters Pam (Brian Wells), and Patricia (David Hurlburt); grandchildren Kelly Zech (Adam Vanjoff-Common law), Kristina (Mat Wyllie), Connor and Jessica Hurlburt; great grandchildren Dylan and Donavon Schule-Zech, Taylor Poon (Chayse Grier-Fiancé), Bradley Poon, Hudson Wyllie, great- great grandchildren Carter Grier, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Jim was born in Blackie, Alberta, lived in Mossleigh until he was 1yr old. In 1929 the Moss family moved to North Thompson Valley establishing the Canyon Creek Ranch in the small community of Birch Island (BC). Jim went to Old’s College then training in Regina joining the RCMP serving 29yrs. Jim also was present of the Canadian Mental Health Association, and President at the Red Deer Golf & Country Club.
Jim played hockey, baseball (pitcher), curled, played racquetball and once ‘Golf’ season was open that is where you could find ‘J.J.’ out on the course for 18 maybe an extra 9 holes on some days. Jim rode in the RCMP musical ride back in the day which is no surprise for those who knew his love for horses. An animal lover Jim kept adding dogs to the family (Rusty, Bonnie, Pepper, McTavish, MacGregor, Hampton, Abby, Mack).
Jim had a smile that would light up the sky, a laugh that would have you laughing without knowing why you were laughing, always lending a helping hand, or coming to his daughter’s rescue, sitting at his wife’s side whenever she was not well, always looked at the positive side even on the toughest days, and never said anything unkind about others. Jim was a true inspiration and a great role model to many.
A retired Staff Sergeant with the RCMP and married to his wife Millie for 69yrs. Jim lived a meaningful and purpose filled life. He will be deeply missed and thought about daily.
Jim’s family wish to thank the paramedics who cared for him along with the staff on the Sunnybrook Hamlet for their care and compassion especially during Jim’s final hours.
Thank you to Eventide Funeral Homes, they were kind, caring and supportive through this difficult time.
A private family celebration of life will be held and any donations in the memory of Jim Moss can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
