It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of our dear “Jimmy,” James Edward Thompson, on August 23, 2018 at the age of 71 years.
Jim, as he was also known to many, was born August 19, 1947 in Milden, Saskatchewan. At the age of eight, the family relocated to Carbon, Alberta; Jim, at this time, moved into Michener Centre in Red Deer, Alberta. He resided there for several years and in 1999, he moved into the community under the care of Innovative Care and Support Services; he was with them until June of 2006, when he moved into the care of Parkland Community and Supports Society (Parkland CLASS). Jim was with Parkland until his passing.
Jim made many, many friends over the years, and during this time he also made some very “special friends” that became like family to him. Up until his passing, he maintained his special friendships; one in particular was with Amie. Jim loved the regular visits, telephone calls and, in the past, their bicycle rides. As everyone who knew Jim knows, he LOVED bicycles! He no longer was able to ride, but he was an avid collector of everything “bikes.”
Jim was predeceased by his father Gordon, mother Mabel and brother Robert. He is survived by his sister, Linda Horne of Strathmore, Alberta.
Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, and especially by his Parkland “family.” A big thank you to all who provided Jim with such special care over the years; you all meant so much to him. Thank you also to all the wonderful nurses, doctors and caregivers at the Red Deer Hospital and Hospice during Jim’s final days.
May you rest in peace, “Jimmy.”
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 5 in Carbon, Alberta.
A special “memorial tea” will be held on Wednesday, September 19 at the Relax Crew Bay #2, 6332 Orr Drive, Red Deer, Alberta.
Condolences may be sent to the family at meaningful@telus.net. Arrangements in care of Meaningful Memorials Funeral Service, Red Deer and central Alberta, 587-876-4944.
