Jack van Loo
Jacobus (Jack) van Loo passed away peacefully on January 23rd, 2024 at the age of 65, with his wife Peggy by his side. Married on May 4th, 1995 they were together for almost 30 years, until Jack left to be in his heavenly home with Jesus his Lord.
Jack was was born on July 21, 1958 in the Hague, Netherlands to Maika and Jacobus Elisha van Loo. The van Loo family immigrated to Red Deer from Holland when Jack was just 9 months old.
Jack graduated from Lindsay Thurber High School and then went on to Red Deer College from 1993-1995.
Jack and Peg moved to Calgary where he attended the University of Calgary for 3 years, before heading to Tulsa, Oklahoma to attend Rhema Bible Training Center, to fulfil a dream he had for 20 years.
Soon after returning to Red Deer once again, Jack and Peg left as missionaries to Uganda. They lived and ministered in Bunono village just outside of Entebbe, Uganda.
For the next ten years Jack fulfilled his calling in Africa. He opened a Bible School, taught in local churches and started a Children’s Fun Club in the village. The children just loved Jack and they would show up at the gate an hour early to help carry benches and crafts down to the club site. Jack saw many miracles happen for people he prayed for them and enthusiastically taught the Word of God.
Many people in Red Deer and Calgary will remember Jack from his social work as a Child and Youth Care worker. Jack had a big heart and he cared deeply about the people he looked after.
Jack loved to sing either in choirs or a soloist and had a flair for the dramatic. He sang out as large as he lived, whether a high school musical, or with the Red Deer Chamber Singers, or a Pregnancy Care Centre fundraising production. Jack mostly enjoyed singing in worship of Jesus, and no doubt continues to do so.
Jack was predeceased by his parents Jake and Maika, and his twin sister Nicollette. He is survived by his sisters, Wilma and Yvonne, and a brother Art, and their families.
He will be remembered as a fun loving, caring person to them who had the pleasure of meeting him. We will all miss this big gentle giant.
He will be greatly missed at Liberty Christian Assembly (Horn Street and Taylor Drive) where he attended and served as an elder and bible teacher, and will be remembered in a Memorial Service there on Wednesday January 31, 2024 at 2pm. with Rev. George Bradley officiating.
Thank you for many kind expressions of sympathy already received.
