Ivy Rose Wolstenholme passed away in Red Deer, Alberta on Sunday September 26, 2021 at the age of 62. Ivy was born in Hanover, Ontario on April 9, 1959. She was raised by her beloved grandmother Gank along with her two siblings. Ivy often shared her beautiful memories of her time growing up on the farm with her very special grandmother. Whom I am so thankful to for raising such an incredible woman that we got to call mom.
Ivy met her husband John Wolstenholme in her early twenties, and they ventured out west to Alberta together. Ivy and John were married in 1983 and welcomed their first daughter Emily the same year. Ivy, John and Emily lived in various locations throughout Central Alberta with their dog Porky and even lived in England for a period of time. The family settled in Red Deer in 1986 and welcomed their second daughter Allana in 1990. Ivy became Nana to her first grandson Benjamin in 2001, her second grandson Eric in 2004 and her grand-puppy Otto in 2017. Being a Nana was very special to Ivy and she was always talking about her boys and planning their next adventure together.
Ivy had a great love for nature, adventure and her garden. Many knew Ivy as the “Plant Lady.” Ivy will be remembered for her thoughtful handmade gifts, her words of wisdom, helping hand, free spirit, lady slippers, fireflies and all the adventures she invited many others on. Ivy had a way of making others feel special and valued with her always thoughtful ways. Ivy had many special road trips in her motorhome “Large Marge.” Some of her road trips were travelling cross country to visit friends and family in southern Ontario, heading North to the Yukon and Alaska with her daughter Allana to pan for gold, spending the weekend at pow wows, camping at the river with her family and many other adventures as well. Ivy took advantage of life and all the experiences it has to offer.
Ivy was predeceased by a newborn son, husband and soulmate John, Grandmother Irene (Gank), father Stanley, mother Helen and brother Merle. She is survived by daughters Allana (Derek), Emily (John), grandsons Benjamin and Eric, brother Dean and niece Jasmine. Mention should be made of faithful companion Otto, who diligently kept watch over Nana, always intuitive and protective.
A Catholic Mass will be held Thursday, October 7 at 1pm by invitation only due to COVID restrictions. Service will be available by livestream, so the many that knew and loved her can be there in spirit.
