Ivy Myfanwy Wilson passed away peacefully with her family at her side on December 1, 2023, at the age of 91.
Ivy was born in the district of Ponoka, Alberta, on June 28, 1932. She grew up on the family farm, east of Ponoka, in the Wood River district.
Ivy loved her family and friends, she loved to dance and was given the gift of music. She played with a band called “Blue Rocky Mountain Echoes”, as well as “The Swing Kings” for many years. At a young age she taught herself to play the piano and organ, and she loved playing her accordion for many occasions, especially the annual Wilson Campout.
Ivy was very proud of her Welsh heritage, loved to collect lighthouses and had a passion for all things green. In her younger years, she travelled to Wales, Mexico, Hawaii, and went on a Mediterranean Cruise.
Ivy worked at Michener Center, in the Recreation Department, until retiring in 1990 after 25 years. She was particularly proud, and excited, to chaperone a group of children competing at Special Olympics at Lake Pleasant in Michigan.
Ivy married Don Wilson in 1990. They enjoyed many years of travel together, spending the winters in Lake Havaso and Indio, as well as touring California and Arizona. Ivy and Don loved to dance, play cards, and camp with many good friends.
Ivy is survived by her loving stepchildren Randy Labonte, Kelly and Sheila Wilson, Patty and Lorne Schulte, Brenda Cormier; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as by numerous special friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ivy was predeceased by her husband Don Wilson; parents John “Jack” and Mwynwen Roberts; son Cameron “Cam” Crandall; and sisters Glenys Jorgenson and Edna Javorsky.
Our family would like to sincerely thank all of the staff at the Ravines Park Avenue Rocky Mountain House for their loving and compassionate care.
No public service is to be held. Condolences to Ivy’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Wilson” in the subject line.
