Bella Kruithof, born Isabella Petrie, was raised during the Depression in the farming community of Chauvin, AB. From an early age, she wanted to become a nurse because “she wanted to help people”.
Bella began her career in Lamont, AB, graduating in 1952, and became the head surgical nurse. She then studied in Winnipeg MB, and returned to Lamont as supervisor of obstetrics and female surgery. In 1958, Bella moved to Red Deer AB, worked a while in San Francisco, and returned to Red Deer as head surgical nurse. After studies at the University of Saskatchewan, she became the staff education coordinator and full-time teacher for nursing aides. Later, she also worked as a unit secretary.
In 1965, Bella married Dick Kruithof and also became mother to his 4 ½ year old twin daughters Susan Ann and Judith Ann. In 1970, she and Dick had a third daughter named Rhonda Valerie.
A caring, even-mannered woman who always put the needs of others before her own. She loved to travel and had various interests and hobbies such as baking, sewing, and knitting.
Bella is survived by her daughters Judy, Sue, and Rhonda, her grandchildren Jalene, Brendan, and Kaile, and 1 great granddaughter Avery.
She will be greatly missed.
A service will be held on August 29th, 12:30 pm at Eventide, and 2 pm graveyard service.
