It is with great sadness that her family announce the passing of (Inez) Marie Rutherford on June 24, 2021. Mom passed away after a short illness at Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary with daughter Brenda and daughter in law Joyce at her side.
Mom was the kindest, most amazing lady who lived her 99 years and 10 months to the fullest. She was an inspiration to many with her positive outlook, warm heart and zest for living.
She was born to Archie and Winnifred McKellar on August 25, 1921 on her family farm at Pilot Mound, MB, the middle of three daughters. In 1942 she married Reg Rutherford and they farmed at Crystal City, MB until 1957 when Reg became a grain buyer. They lived in different areas of MB and Sask until 1972 when they moved to Red Deer and both were employed by Red Deer Regional hospital. Once retired, they enjoyed travelling, camping and the company of family and many friends and when widowed Mom continued this lifestyle. Mom lived independently until 90 years of age and then moved into Parkvale lodge where the wonderful staff and residents joined her extended family.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Reg, her parents, sisters Bernice Vines and Doreen Wallace and her son in law Garry Dermott. She is survived by her four loving children – Brenda Dermott of Kamloops, sons Archie (Jennifer) of Bowen Island, Sam (Joyce) of Qualicum Beach and James (Nati) of Red Deer, four grandchildren Danna (Mark), Greg, Ivy (Jeff) and Keegan (Trina) and six great grandchildren Ash and Belle Rutherford, Ava Taylor, Mackenzie and Charlotte Wright and Ivor Rutherford and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother (GG) who will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all her family and friends. We will always be grateful for the endless love, support and wisdom that she gave to us all over her life.
A private family service will be held at Crystal City MB at a later date. The family requests that any expressions of sympathy be donations to STARS or a charity of your choice.
You left us beautiful memories
Your love is still our guide
And although we can not see you
You are always at our side
Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again
