Ian Duncan passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the age of 92 years.
Ian was born in Drumheller on January 16, 1932. The family moved to Calgary in the 1940’s and one of Ian’s dreams was to be a rancher. He used to frequent Currie Riding Academy trail riding, where he was affectionately known as Zeke. He subsequently worked for Motor Car Supply in both Calgary and Fort St John, eventually ending up in Red Deer. Based in Penhold, he manufactured and sold McKee Harvester farm equipment throughout Western Canada during the 70’s. Then he truly achieved his dream, in 1970 Ian acquired a ranch. He ranched in Blackfalds for many years. During the 90’s he became very active around central Alberta in the oilpatch and was truly an entrepreneur. In the 2000’s he managed commercial properties in Blackfalds and settled into retirement where he spent many fond winters down in Phoenix.
Ian is mourned by many including sister May and Fred Jessee of Calgary; brother Robert and Elsie Duncan of Chilliwack and children Jane Duncan and Jim Duncan of Calgary; honourary children Debbie Wosnak (Randy) of Red Water, Coly Gutekenst (Kevin) of Tucson, Howard McWilliam (Shelley) of Red Deer, Heather McWilliam-Yu (Kwok Shing) of Kelowna, Rod McWilliam (Beverly) of Red Deer, Sandy Davis (Kim) of Edmonton; grandchild Elizabeth (Kevan); great granddaughter Edie; and bonus Grandchildren David, Rob, Allison, Christine, Andrew, Kilee, Darren; as well as many nieces, nephews and great Grandchildren.
