On December 31, 2017, Marjorie passed away peacefully surrounded by family.

If you knew Marjorie, you knew her distinct laugh. It was fulsome and infectious and brought joy even if you were in another room. She was a strong woman that forged her own path. She was known for her work ethic, smarts and determination. In 1966, she decided to pursue her teaching degree. To do this she needed Biology 30 so she completed it by correspondence and achieved a perfect 100% grade on the provincial final exam. She went on to earn her teaching degree in Edmonton while raising her three young children alone as her husband Bill was up north working on the rigs. Marjorie taught Math and Biology 30 at Coronation High School where she was greatly respected. Even in the final years of her life, students reached out to thank Marjorie for the impact she had on their education. She carried on her legacy by generously funding her grandchildren’s education, setting them up for life.

Marjorie was an avid gardener who took great pride in her veggie garden and flower beds. She was a hearty and generous cook and many guests enjoyed special dishes made just for them. Her family will miss her waffles, creamed cabbage and homemade salsa. Marjorie was social, and loved coffee with friends, playing cards and dancing.

After retirement, Marj volunteered at the Red Deer City Victim Services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Red Deer City Victim Services.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ole and Irene Olson; brothers, Martin, Bill, Andy and Ken; husband, Bill; and daughter, Cheri. Marjorie will be lovingly remembered by her sons Ken and Craig Howg, brothers Dave and Doug Olson, her five grandchildren Jenn, Cara, Valri, Matthew and Spencer, and 11 great grandkids.
