Helen Faye Richards

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Faye Richards, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and dear friend.
Faye passed away, at the age of 88, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease in Red Deer, Alberta on May 16, 2023.
Faye was born in Creston, British Columbia, August 14, 1934, and was the only child of Wesley and Beryl Eddy. She attended Victoria College to obtain her teaching degree and went on to teach elementary school throughout B.C.
After finishing college, she returned home to Creston for her summer vacation, where she met RCMP officer, Allen Richards, who would become the love of her life. They married on July 1, 1955, in Creston, and were blessed with three children who they raised in the Vancouver area. They were later transferred to Ottawa, Red Deer, and Calgary.
Faye will be remembered as a very special woman who possessed an extraordinary blend of qualities that made her truly remarkable. She was kind, and beautiful with a heart of gold, always extending a helping hand to those in need. As a loving and devoted mother, she poured her heart and soul into raising her children, ensuring their happiness and well-being were paramount. That dedication continued throughout her life. Faye’s fun-loving spirit radiated joy wherever she went, infusing laughter and excitement into every moment.
She spent a great deal of her time doing philanthropic work for various organizations, including GrammaLink-Africa, Eastern Star, and Daughters of the Nile, where she served as Queen. Faye was also active in the United Church.
After returning to University, she pursued a career in human resources, where she worked at the Foothills Hospital and the University of Calgary.
Faye had a number of hobbies, each reflecting her boundless creativity. Whether she picked up a needle and thread for quilting, a brush for painting, or entered the kitchen to cook up delicious meals for her family and guests, she excelled in every endeavor. Faye had a magical touch that breathed life into her creations, infusing them with her unique artistic flair.
Faye was predeceased by her husband, Allen, and her parents, Wesley and Beryl Eddy, and her beloved cousin Beryl, who was like a sister to her. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Robert Richards (Karen), Deborah Swainson (Peter), and Mark Richards (Peter Schmaltz), her grandchildren, Matt Swainson (Stephanie), Amanda Swainson, Ryan Richards, Amy Pope (Brad), great-grandchildren, Lara, Logan, Colter, Kyrie and Wren, sister-in-law, Anne, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
