Hazel Mabel Bysterveld (Meers)

Mrs. Hazel Mabel Bysterveld of Red Deer, formerly of Delburne, Alberta, passed away peacefully at Extendicare Michener Hill, Red Deer on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the age of 93 years. Hazel was born on December 21, 1923 at Acadia Valley, Alberta to Gordon and Mabel Meers. She met her husband, Peter at Calgary, Alberta in 1942. The couple married on the Family Farm in Acadia Valley on July 26, 1946. Hazel taught for more than thirty years. She loved her garden, dancing, camping and traveling; and everyone loved her delicious home cooked meals and amazing baking. Hazel was deeply involved with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 142 at Delburne, was a loyal member of the Delburne United Church Ladies Friendship Group, and a longtime member of the Eastern Star. Hazel will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, JoAnne Bysterveld of Stettler, Alberta; three sons, Keith (Marlene) and Barry (Marjorie), both of Delburne, and Ronald (Teresa) of Okotoks, Alberta; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by two brothers, Ken (Ann) Meers of Red Deer and Mervin Meers of Acadia Valley, Alberta; as well as numerous other family and many dear friends. Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Peter, a granddaughter, Lisa Bysterveld, three brothers and two sisters. A Celebration of Hazel’s Life will be held at the Delburne Community Hall, Delburne, Alberta on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at the Delburne Cemetery, Delburne, Alberta on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Hazel’s honor may be made directly to a charity of the donor’s choice.
