Hazel Chantler

We are sad to announce the passing of our dear Mom Hazel, on July 1/26 at Taylor View Towers in Red Deer at the age of 91.  Hazel was born in Wapella, Sask. on Jan.25/35.  The family relocated to Nipawin, Sask. where Hazel grew up on the family farm. Hazel attended Cherry Ridge School and played the piano for school events and was active in sports.  When Hazel was 20 yrs old she moved to Saskatoon where she worked at the Ok Economy Grocery Store.  Hazel loved dancing, which lead her to meet our Dad, Ash Chantler at a local dancehall.  They married on Nov. 7/59 and lived in Saskatoon before moving to Wainright.  In 1963 they settled in Red Deer which would become their home for the next 62 yrs.  Hazel and Ash were very social and loved to travel, camp, dine, and play cards with their long time group of friends. Hazel and Ash travelled to many places through Canada and the US with their trailer/motorhome.  Las Vegas and Hawaii were their favourites.  Hazel enjoyed music, playing the piano and the accordion, golfing, curling, gardening and vacations with her family.  Hazel was a long time member of the Sunnybrook United Church and sang in the choir. Hazel also sang with the Hearts of Harmony Chorus for 23 yrs.  Hazel worked at Westpark Foods, Dominion Fruit, and Eastview IGA.  After Dad’s passing in 2007, Hazel worked at Walmart as a Greeter where she enjoyed socializing with friends and customers.  Hazel loved sports, especially the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Toronto Blue Jays.  Hazel truly treasured her family and spending time with them.

Hazel will be lovingly remembered by her children, Shauna McGillicky, Brent Chantler (Elisa), Leanne Beaton.  Grandchildren, Travis (Beth), Allison (Dillon), Krista (Rob), Austyn, and Ariss(Dan).  8 Great Grandchildren, Sister Joyce Hauck (Tony), many nieces, nephews and friends.   Hazel was predeceased by her Parents John and Ruby Geall, Husband Ash of 47 yrs, Sister Shirley Welk, Brother Ed Geall and several Sisters in laws and Brothers in Laws.

We would like to thank the Staff at Taylor View Towers for their great care.

A memorial service for Hazel will be held Tuesday, July 14/26 at 11am at Sunnybrook United Church.  12 Stanton Street, Red Deer.
