She was one of seven children which included four sisters Berta, Marianne, Ingrid, and Helga and two brothers Rudy and Charlie. Hannelore spent the first years of her life in Sudetenland, Austria and Germany during the second world war. When she was a young girl, her family immigrated to Canada and she began working at the sugar beet farms in southern Alberta. They eventually moved to Keremos BC where the family owned a farm and orchard. As a young girl, along with her older sisters, she worked as a housekeeper giving her earnings to support her family.
Hannelore married her beloved husband, Gerald Beach on July 25th, 1959. Sharing 35 beautiful years together before he passed away in September of 1994. They started their life together living in Calgary and Edmonton and eventually settling in Hanna, Alberta. They worked in the family grocery store, while raising their young children. Hannelore showed immense strength and resilience after Gerry’s passing. She always said that her granddaughters kept her going. Her love and affection for them was insurmountable, creating lasting memories in baking together, doing crafts, cooking delicious food, and attending their school, band, piano and dance events. She was extremely supportive and never missed an event.
She was a woman of many qualities, passions, and strengths. She loved deeply and cared immensely. She absolutely loved to cook and bake which was one of her greatest passions which she gladly shared with her grandchildren. She loved music and her home was always filled with music playing. She loved gardening and birds, with her yard full of beautiful flowers, raspberry bushes along with birdhouses and birdbaths. She was involved with her local United Church and volunteered for many activities. She was a round and square dancer travelling around Alberta and into the US to dance. She also loved photography and took many pictures capturing many memories over the years. She volunteered at the local tourist center. She enjoyed visiting with her neighbours and friends and was always ready to lend a hand when needed.
She was an incredible friend, daughter, sister, mother, and Omma. She was a vibrant woman, wildly stubborn with the biggest heart. Even through her journey with dementia in the last 14 years of her life, she never gave up. She will be remembered for her love and strength beyond her years on Earth. Truly knowing her was a gift beyond her physical self. A gift that we take with us, that becomes a part of us, now and forever in our hearts. Mom and Omma you are deeply missed! We love you.
