Gordon Douglas Anderson passed away in Rimbey on August 29, 2019 at the age of 89 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Helen; two daughters, Helen (Wayne) and Debbie, and one son Doug; four grandchildren, Nicole, Ryan, Angela and Clark; and 3 great-grandchildren, Amelia, Morgan and Braylon.
Gordon was born and raised on a farm near Excel, Alberta and tried many different jobs as a young man. He saw much of Alberta and Saskatchewan as a surveyor. He married Helen in 1953 and together they raised three children in Rimbey. Gordon was a long term Gulf Oil employee, retiring in 1990, and made many good friends during his time there.
Gordon was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter, volunteer, traveler and woodworker. He was very active in the community and could always be counted on to help family, friends or neighbours. Gordon was very involved with Pas-Ka-Poo Park in Rimbey, volunteering his time, woodworking and restoration talents. He attended the Coffee Club at the Smithson International Truck Museum for many years.
He was a member of the Rimbey Fish and Game Association for many years. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, the Rimbey Kinsmen Club, the Rimbey Lions Club, served on Rimbey Town Council and as Deputy Mayor.
Gordon had a quick wit and fantastic sense of humour. He was always quick to share a story or a joke. No one could deliver a groaner like Gordie. His stories, jokes and laughter were a gift that he gave to each of us. He was a wonderful man.
