In Loving Memory Of
Gordon Davidson
December 2, 1931 – March 9, 2021
Gordon Davidson of Red Deer peacefully went to be with his heavenly Father on March 9, 2021. Gordon was born in Edmonton – Raised on the family farm in Ardrossan and was the last surviving child in a group of 12 siblings. He attended Douglas School and then worked on the family farm. At the age of 17, he left the farm and began working at Wanless Lumber. He then moved to Zeidler Millworks, where he met and fell in love with a co-worker, Peggy Woodhouse. He and Peggy were married July 26, 1954; and moved to their first home just off Whyte Avenue in Edmonton. They had 3 boys, Andy in 1956, Tom in 1959, and Ron in 1961. They moved to a larger house near the Bonnie Doon area and welcomed their fourth son Darcy in 1965.
Gord was very active in the lives of his sons, volunteering with the Knights of Columbus Hockey program. He served as president of the St James church council. Peggy and Gordon spent most free time helping family members on their farms in Ardrossan and South Cooking Lake. As the boys grew, Gord and Peggy were always hosting groups of friends into their home almost all of the time.
In 1972, Gordon began his 28 year career with Century Sales. He accepted a transfer to Red Deer in 1982, and he and Peggy moved into their new empty nest home. Although empty nesters, it didn’t take long for the Lynch children from across the street to come to know Gordon & Peggy as their Canadian grand parents. They met numerous friends in Red Deer and continued an active social life. Gordon became very involved with the K of C council #3408, and he and Peggy shared the responsibility of financial secretary.
From the friendship formed with the Lynch family, Gordon became president of the Irish Canadian Youth and Culture Club in Red Deer. Gordon would laugh, “Not bad for a Scotsman!”
Upon retirement in 2000, Gordon was honoured to be given a trip to Scotland; which was one of his fondest memories. Gordon’s good health in retirement allowed him time for travel. Over the years, Gordon always cherished his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In 2005 Gordon moved from his home in Odell Green into the Aspen Ridge Residence. It took a while for him to adapt to this change, but his positive attitude and sense of humour helped him make many new friends both with the fellow residents and staff members.
Gordon was predeceased by his wife Peggy of 42 years in 1996, and by his grandson, Kevin in 2012. Gordon is lovingly remembered by his children; Andy (Darlene), Tom (Tracy), Ron (David) and Darcy (Keryl), Grandchildren; Cory (Kim), Paulette (Sean), Jessica, Nicolas, Lucas, Jacob, Great Grandkids; Calli, Ryan, Corbin and Teagan; many brother and sister in laws, and numerous nieces and nephews, and many good friends.
We would like to thank the staff at the Red Deer Hospital Covid Unit, for their loving care of Papa Gord. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Gordon. Due to Covid restrictions a private family service will be held in Red Deer.
