Gilbert Ernest Lethbridge peacefully passed away on November 24, 2021 at the age of 89 with the love of his family surrounding him.
He is predeceased by his wife Marion, parents William and Kathleen, brother Lawrence and son Rocky.
Gilbert was born in Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan at Red Cross Hospital. Growing up he had many different jobs, working the railway, helping local ranchers. As a young man, Dada loved all animals. He had a special horse, “Bonnie”. Bonnie helped him get to school and out of a few predicaments. Gilbert was the one who clean the chalkboard and get the schoolhouse warm.
Later in years, he met the love of his life Marion. They were married on September 28, 1957, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. They went on to raise their family which consisted of Kelly, Carrie, and Rocky.
Gilbert worked as a construction worker for most of his life. In 1974 he moved the family to Alberta. He settled in Red Deer, Alberta. Started working for Mel Industries. Due to medical reasons, he had to retire early.
Gilbert would quote “There is not a road that I have not either worked on or made in Alberta.”
After retiring Gilbert would love any kind of fishing trip. He had fond memories of Marion catching her first fish. He enjoyed fishing with Marion, his granddaughters, his nephews, or anyone willing to go with him.
Gilbert will be lovingly remembered by Kelly Lethbridge, Carrie Wiebe, His brother Phil (Jacki) Lethbridge, his 6 granddaughters; Brandi, Robin, Ashley, Brittany, Sheani, and Shaylin. Numerous nephews, nieces, and close friend Jack Whitehead.
A service with being held in his honor on Friday, December 10th, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gilbert’s honor to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta.
